Practice Drills: Screening a Sample Client Against a PEP List
A practice-first course on politically exposed person (PEP) screening. You build one screening worksheet and one fictional client file, then work them drill by drill the way an onboarding or AML analyst at an Indian bank, NBFC or stockbroker does. You start with who counts as a PEP under the PML Rules, the RBI KYC Master Direction and SEBI's AML guidelines, and how PEP screening differs from sanctions screening. You then work the matching problems that cause most bad decisions: exact, partial and fuzzy name hits, transliteration, initials and Indian naming conventions, and using date of birth, nationality and address to separate a true match from a false positive. Next come the relationship drills: family members, close associates, and a PEP sitting behind a company or trust as beneficial owner. The decision drills cover dispositioning an alert, enhanced due diligence and source of wealth, senior management approval and writing a screening rationale that survives an audit. The course closes with rescreening an existing book when a list changes and two full capstone files. All clients, names and figures are fictional and for training only.
