Practice Drills: Reconstructing a Fund Manager's Public Portfolio Logic
Every Indian mutual fund publishes its full portfolio every month. Most investors glance at the top ten holdings and move on. This drill course teaches you to read those disclosures the way an analyst at a rival AMC would: as evidence of a decision process. You will download and clean a real monthly portfolio file, classify holdings into SEBI market-cap buckets, measure concentration and active share against the benchmark, compute weighted portfolio valuations, and place the fund on a value, growth and quality map. Then you move from snapshots to behaviour, building a month-over-month change log that separates genuine buying from price drift, spots tranche entries and exits, and estimates turnover and cash calls. You will extend the method to PMS managers and named large investors through quarterly shareholding patterns and bulk and block deals, learn exactly what public data cannot tell you, and finish by writing a ten-line rulebook for a fund of your choice and testing it against the next month's disclosure.
