Practice Drills: Filling Out a Basic KYC Verification Checklist
A practice-first course for anyone who wants to do KYC, not just define it. You build one working KYC verification checklist and then fill it out, file after file, the way an onboarding analyst at a bank, NBFC or stockbroker such as Zerodha or a KRA-linked depository participant would. Each drill hands you a sample customer file with documents, declarations and verification records, and asks you to tick, flag or reject. You start with identity and address: PAN validation and Form 60 cases, Officially Valid Documents, Aadhaar offline verification and masking, and the name, date of birth and address mismatches that cause most rejections. You then check verification channels (in-person verification, Video KYC under V-CIP, CKYC and KRA records), record occupation, income and source of funds, screen for PEPs and sanctions lists, assign a risk category, and complete FATCA and CRS self-certification. Later drills cover partnership firms, LLPs, private limited companies, HUFs and trusts, including identifying the beneficial owner. The course ends with three full capstone files: a demat account opening, a rejected file that needs a discrepancy note, and a periodic re-KYC review. Every rule is tied back to the PMLA, the RBI KYC Master Direction and SEBI's KYC norms.
