Introduction to KYC: Know Your Customer Frameworks
A concept-first introduction to Know Your Customer, the process that sits in front of every bank account, demat account, mutual fund folio and insurance policy in India. You start with the problem KYC was built to solve: money laundering, terror financing and fraud that depend on accounts nobody can trace to a real person. You then learn the legal backbone (the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002 and the PML Rules), who writes the detailed rules (RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA and FIU-IND) and how the global FATF standards shape them. The middle of the course covers the building blocks every KYC framework shares: customer identification with PAN, Officially Valid Documents and Aadhaar, the three levels of due diligence, beneficial ownership and risk categorisation. You then see India's KYC infrastructure in action: the CKYC registry, KYC Registration Agencies, eKYC, Video KYC and periodic updation. The course closes with how KYC differs across a bank, a stockbroker such as Zerodha and an insurer, what Indian enforcement actions reveal when KYC fails, and what KYC means for you as an investor or a future compliance professional.
